Upscaling

Free AI Image Upscaler

AI image upscaling with more control and less compromise.

Free Image Upscaler is a browser-based AI image upscaler for turning a small JPG, PNG, WEBP, or AVIF image into a larger, more usable image. It uses the open-source Real-ESRGAN AI model to estimate missing detail rather than simply stretching the original pixels. You can try a 2× or 4× render without creating an account or adding a watermark, and Premium/Ultra plans extend the same workflow up to 6×, 8× and 16× (16K-class output).

Before and after comparison: a low-resolution photo enlarged 4x with the Real-ESRGAN AI upscaler, showing sharper detail
Example of a 4x AI enlargement with Real-ESRGAN — sharper edges and recovered detail.

What image upscaling can and cannot do

A low-resolution image contains fewer samples of the scene than a high-resolution camera would capture. Traditional resizing makes those samples larger, often producing soft edges and visible pixelation. AI upscaling analyzes nearby shapes, textures, and edges, then predicts a plausible higher-resolution version. This can make a crop, old scan, product photo, or web image more useful for a presentation or a small print.

Upscaling is not a time machine: it cannot recover detail that was never recorded, and very blurry or heavily compressed images may still contain artifacts. For the most natural result, start with the sharpest original available, use 2× for a moderate enlargement, and compare 4× only when the source has enough structure to support it. The before-and-after previews on this site are examples of the kinds of changes the process can make, not a promise that every image will look identical.

A clear four-step workflow

  1. 1. Choose a source image

Upload a JPG, PNG, WEBP, or AVIF file up to 10 MB.

  2. 2. Select the scale

Choose 2× for a lighter enlargement or 4× when you need more pixels for a crop or output.

  3. 3. Let the worker process it

The image is sent to a GPU worker running the Real-ESRGAN pipeline and returned as a generated result.

  4. 4. Review and download

Compare the result with the source in the browser, then download it if it meets your needs.

Useful for everyday image work

Print preparation

Increase the working dimensions of a small client proof before testing a modest print size.

Old photographs

Give a scan or vintage snapshot enough size for an album, card, or personal archive.

Product listings

Improve the usable dimensions of an existing product photo when a marketplace requires a larger upload.

Cropped subjects

Recover a little more working room from a face, object, or detail cropped out of a wider photograph.

Presentations and screens

Prepare small web assets for slides, banners, and displays where the original looks visibly soft.

Quality checks

Test both scale factors quickly before deciding whether an image is good enough to reuse or needs a new source.

Privacy is part of the workflow

Uploads are processed to create the requested result, not to build an image library or train a model. Source-file handling, account history, cookies, advertising consent, retention, and your GDPR rights are explained in the full Privacy Policy. The service is operated by HyperPixel; contact details are published there and in the Terms of Service.

Questions before you start?

Do I need an account?
No. Anonymous use is available within the fair-use limit. An account adds saved history and higher limits.
Which files are accepted?
The public free workflow accepts JPG, PNG, WEBP, and AVIF images within the displayed upload limit.
Is the result guaranteed to be perfect?
No. AI reconstruction is source-dependent. Review the preview and keep the original before replacing it.
Where are the limits documented?
The Plans and limits page describes the Free tier (10 MB, 2x and 4x) and future paid tiers without requiring a purchase.
